What I am listening to as I type this:  Soulfly - Bring It

November 27, 2007

Hey, I'm back from vacation.  It was an interesting trip, we'll leave it at that.  Saw quite a bit of very cool stuff over there.  Ate some interesting and great food there.  But I've got to say I'm very happy to be back here.  I don't know what it is about that country that makes me re-evaluate everything in my life when I come home but it's happening to me; it happened last time too.   Had major flight issues on the way back so got back a lot later than I had planned.  Very busy at work, will be very busy until Christmas.  They have a lot of snow in Switzerland, but none here yet.  This ski season may get a late start.  This weekend I'm going up to Nick's place on Saturday then running the Colder Boulder on Sunday.  I'm what you could call "broke as a joke" right now, so I'll be laying quite low until the New Year most likely.

Mellow, calm, somber, relaxed, focused, and most importantly - thankful & grateful.  I know what I want and I know how to get it, time to move towards that.

Alright ... almost outta here.  Still have a lot to get done at work though, so I cannot mentally check out quite yet.  Still have to pack everything, still have a couple of more things I need to get at the store, still need to hit up the bank, and still have to somehow find the PIN# to my debit card.  Bastards switched from Visa to MasterCard last week and sent me a new card with a PIN# that I have yet to receive that I cannot get by phone or in person.  If I cannot find it, I guess I have no access to cash for the next three weeks.  I've set up auto-payments for my bills to take care of themselves on the upcoming payday.  I have new luggage (Samsonite! It says it right on the briefcase!).  I have my plane tickets (no e-tickets, so I hope I don't lose them!).  I have my passport and overseas legal counsel card (work benefit).  Got my laptop with the 1/3 destroyed LCD panel.  Got a couple of new books and magazines to read.  After hours of fidgeting with it, I have an MP3 player that works again, fully loaded with Slipknot, Stone Sour, Active Mix, 80's tunes, Early-90's rap, Pink Floyd, Bloodhound Gang, Ministry of Sound, Rain mix, and Sleepy Mix ... not to mention 8 cd's worth of "Instant Immersion German".

I'm starting to think I'll never be able to learn German.  I've spent countless hours on this and still feel like I've gone nowhere.  That language sucks, but then again, I tried Spanish when I was 14-16 and I remember none of that and never could grasp it.  I won't give up, but I'm starting to think another language just isn't meant for me.  I'm not giving up, but I'm not as ultimately optimistic as I was a few months ago.  Funny how I can learn computer programming languages easily (except ASP) but cannot get oral languages!

I'm realizing my political affiliation is similar to my preference of Microsoft to Apple.  I think it is impossible to get the right combinations in one operating system just as it's impossible for me to find a politician who agrees with me on even the most major of issues. For example ... a perfect operating system would not allow for ASP to be a functional language and would not allow for Internet Explorer or Outlook to be so tightly-coupled with the OS; however, it would operate just as Windows does.  Apple is a garbage company for the simple facts that
A) iTunes sucks for the following reasons:
    1) It renames your files automatically to their standard format even after you spent literally 4 years custom-naming them all. (it is an option as opposed to automatic now, but I'll never forgive them for fucking up my file names when it used to lack the option)
B) people say "oooh! the system doesn't crash and there are few viruses for it!".  Jackasses, that's because nobody uses them.  If somebody wants to terrorize as many computers as possible, they choose the OS that 90% of people use, why waste their time on 10% of the population?  It's just as easily hacked, just note the way I hacked my iPod .... but that brings us to:
C) Monopoly on iTunes.  There are all these toys you can buy for your iPod ... car adapters, home stereos, etc.  In order for these to work, certain hacks on the system don't work.  The only way you can use these devices is if you use iTunes (which fucks up all your custom file names).  So basically, if you buy a car stereo with is compatible with an iPod, bring it home, install it, plug in your iPod -- your iPod won't work on this stereo unless you use iTunes.  The second you install iTunes and plug in your hacked iPod, it corrupts the iPod, from here you lose all your music and have to reformat it and do all of your custom hack-work again to get it back to normal.

Moving on ... unfortunately there is no such thing as a politician who is:
A) Pro-Choice
B) Against the death penalty
C) Against illegal immigration and against allowing the illegals presently here the right/chance to gain (buy) citizenship
D) Pro-2nd Amendment (against gun control)
E) For stem-cell research
F) Against gay marriage (or any marriage, for that matter.  I still say it is BULLSHIT that married couples get tax breaks.  BULLSHIT!!!!! This is the only reason I'm against gay marriage, we don't need any more people getting bullshit tax breaks just because their personal lifestyle choice is different from mine as being single.  Why not make Asexual marriage legal so I can marry myself and get a tax break? Why not allow roommates to file joint so they get a tax break?)

Impossible I tell you, impossible. As soon as the Democratic National Convention is over next year, I'm switching my affiliation from Democrat to Independent.

84 hours from now I'll be somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean.  Let the countdown begin.

Phil Dawson sucks.  Seriously, I pick the guy up for my fantasy team this week as Robbie Gould had a bye, the bastard misses an extra point causing an endless cycle of 2-point conversion attempts (more non-points for me), then the one thing he can f**king make is an OT field goal to beat the Seahawks.  This guy is awful and officially goes above Al Harris on my shit-list for NFL players I dislike.

Do you ever go a month or so without flossing, then you floss, and your teeth hurt for like 2 days after you start flossing again?  Yeah, that sucks.

I hate Apple.  I hate Apple.  I hate Apple.  I hate Apple.  I am 99% sure I'm going to sell this fucking iPod piece of shit on eBay and buy a Zune.  I am just so fed up with that garbage company that is Macintosh it is ridiculous.  Seriously, who funds this bullshit operation?!  For reasons I won't get into, I had to install iTunes the other day to update my iPod's firmware.  First off it's bullshit I need that software to install firmware!  We all know how much I detest iTunes ... they have literally cost me somewhere between 80-100 hours of manual file-name adjusting simply because I installed iTunes!!  Since then, I vowed to never use or buy anything Apple again.  After hacking the iPod interface and converting my iPod to work solely with Winamp (the best media player ever) ....  ahhhh shit, I just realized I don't even want to talk about this as it's gettimg me upset again and it's just not worth it.  Fuck Apple, Fuck Macintosh, and most importantly ... FUCK ITUNES!!!

Today is a sad day for all of us in fleetville ... they have suspended, and possibly forever cancelled, Boulder Kinetics.  When people ask me what are the top 5 things the Denver Metro has to offer, I will always say, in this order:

1) Bolder Boulder Memorial Day 10K
2) Rockies Opening Day
3) Boulder Kinetics
4) Great American Beer Festival
5) Anything at Red Rocks

How they can take out one of the top 5 is beyond me.  This is right up there with the cancellation of daily Fox Trot cartoons, or Flying Dog K9 Cruiser changing from a year-round beer to simply a Winter Ale.  Terrible that this event couldn't attract more people, I simply cannot understand why.  I've got to thank Rikelle and Aja for getting me into this tradition; I have utmost sympathy for those of you who never got to experience this amazing event.  Let's hope this is a one-time deal, and for the record, I'm just going to pretend that Jacob's wedding was going to fall on the same day as Kinetics so I wouldn't have been able to attend anyway, that'll at least take away some of the sting.

Here I shall post a 17 picture tribute to what was Boulder Kinetics:
